Customers queue at 6am as new store opens

SHOPPERS queued in bright sunshine to pick up opening day offers when a Netto opened its doors at Huddersfield Road, Ravens-thorpe.

The official opening was carried out by Nasar Rehman, wife Rizwana and their daughter Anum, three, and son Mohammed Saad, two.

The family were loyal customers at the Netto store in Rishworth Road, Dewsbury, which the new shop replaces.

They were welcomed by Netto UK managing director Richard Lancaster and store manager Martin Owen.

Mr Owen said: “The response from shoppers has been amazing. I was thrilled to see so many people queuing as early as 6am.

“We had a great start to our trading, with more than 7,000 customers on our first day. I’m very proud of my colleagues who have taken the hectic opening schedule in their stride.”

The new £2m store is on the Ravensthorpe Shopping Park. It sells big brands and own label products, fresh produce and meat delivered daily, frozen foods, healthy choices and a wide range of wines, beers and non-food items.

Mr Rehman said: “My wife and I used to shop at the old Netto just down the road. This store is a lot bigger and much more convenient for us.”

Netto was recently named the UK’s fastest growing supermarket retailer by industry analysts AC Nielsen.
