Louise going green after bike win

SHOPPER Louise Birkenshaw has plenty of incentive to “go green” after winning a new bicycle.

Louise, who lives at Drighlington, won a draw which was held when Birstall Shopping Park hosted an exhibition providing advice and information on environmental issues.

Organisations taking part included Kirklees Energy Services, Leeds Council’s recycling and waste department, Bradford-based environmental group Why Waste and environmental charity Groundwork.

The exhibition covered issues such as energy use, carbon emissions, transport, recycling, water use and cutting waste.

Hundreds of people completed questionnaires expressing their views and priorities.

It showed that the most important environmental scheme for households was to increase recycling, followed by reducing energy use.

People also commented on concerns about over-packaged products and plastic bags.

Louise, who received her prize from shopping park manager Denis Copeland and operations manager Arfan Hussein, said: “I have been putting off the purchase as most of my disposable income has been going on the children. This is a very welcome surprise.”
