Anniversary cash helps hospice

A COUPLE celebrating their ruby wedding have raised £555 for charity by asking family and friends to make gifts instead of buying them presents.

Clive and Christine Booth, both 62, of Acre Lane, Meltham, marked their 40 years of marriage with a party at Meltham Golf Club. Later, they presented the cash to Jean Clarke, of the Meltham support group of Kirkwood Hospice, Dalton.

The couple met when they worked at David Brown Tractors in Meltham and were married at Kirkheaton Parish Church.

Mr Booth had a career in engineering and Mrs Booth later worked for 27 years as a teacher at Fixby Junior and Infant School.

The couple have a son, a daughter and five grandchildren.
