Pork pie masters move into town centre

AN award-winning pie maker is setting up shop in Huddersfield.

Bradford-based J Lord & Sons has established The Pie Shed at the Open Market at Byram Street to target hungry office workers and shoppers. The new shop will be officially launched on Saturday.

The company, founded in 2003 and headed by master pie maker Johnny Lord, is a member of the Pork Pie Club of Great Britain and was a rosette winner at the club’s national competition in Ripponden earlier this year.

Visitors to The Pie Shed stall will be able to buy Lord’s Take & Bake range of pies for eating at home or Lord’s hot pie and peas as a lunch-time treat. The Take & Bake range comprises traditional pork pies, savoury sausage, steak and kidney, and steak and ale pies.

Mr Lord said: “We are absolutely delighted to be opening our first Pie Shed in the Huddersfield Open Market. We thought it made sense following our success from our presence at Holmfirth Farmers Market.”

Huddersfield-based ask Strategic Marketing has been drafted in to promote the opening of the new shop. On Saturday, a promotional team will be wearing green wigs and Where’s My Peas? T-shirts. Pork Pie Man will also tour the town centre alerting shoppers to the new arrival.
