Chance to build dreams

HOUSEHOLDERS in Huddersfield have been given the chance to get expert advice on creating their dream home – while raising funds for the homeless.

Heywood Architects, of St George’s Square in Huddersfield, are taking part in Architects in the House, a scheme run by the Royal Institute of British Architects and charity Shelter.

Under the scheme, architects across the country volunteer their time to offer homeowners specialist advice on making design changes to their homes.

Householders signing up to the scheme receive a one-hour consultation offering professional advice on anything from building an extension to environmentally-friendly design.

In return for the architects’ services, homeowners are asked to donate a minimum of £40 to Shelter, helping families who are homeless or trapped in bad housing find a permanent home of their own.

Architect in the House is now in its 12th year, having raised more than £700,000.

Matt Beaumont, director of Heywoods Architects, said: “If you’ve got a project that you’ve been keeping on the back burner or an idea to improve your home that you’ve mulled over, but never looked into, Architects in the House is a great opportunity to make a positive change while helping families trapped in bad housing find and keep a home of their own.”
