David Brown sold in billion dollar deal

David Brown was established in 1860 to make patterns for gears and rose to become a world-leading manufacturer of gears and motors for use in products ranging from Challenger tanks, Formula 1 racing cars and navy ships to conveyor systems and bakery ovens.

Despite undergoing many changes in its 140-year history, the company has remained a premier manufacturer of engineering products.

It has manufacturing sites in the USA, Australia, South Africa, Europe, China, and Thailand as well as sales offices or distributors in 15 countries, including Finland, Germany, France, Italy, Thailand and China.

Among recent orders, David Brown has provided gears for a mining company in Armenia and a sugar mill in South Africa, as well as replacement equipment for a steel works in Port Talbot, Wales.
