Awards scheme for innovators

INVENTIVE firms in Huddersfield have been urged to enter a regional award.

Companies have until Friday to register for Innovator 09, a competition run by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward to recognise companies which come up with innovative products and services.

University departments and facilities involved with industrial collaborations are also invited to take part.

Six new categories have been added to this year’s contest, including one for international innovation.

Jim Farmery, assistant director of business for Yorkshire Forward, said: “Yorkshire and Humber has developed a diverse mixed economy which gives us resilience in difficult times.

“But to remain competitive, companies need to stay ahead of the game and innovation is key to this. It’s more important than ever that we reward companies and individuals for their dedication to innovation in their work.”
