Engineering company bought out

A HOLME Valley firm has been taken over.

Taylor and Whiteley, based at Queen's Square, Honley, makes parts for turbochargers.

It has been bought by Halifax-based VTL Holdings for an undisclosed sum.

The deal creates a business with combined sales of £20m.

The new owners expect to increase that to £35m by next year.

Taylor and Whiteley founder and managing director Robert Whiteley keeps a 5% stake in the holding company, which comprises VTL and Taylor and Whiteley.

The takeover was led by Bruno Jouan, who becomes group managing director, and Chris Elliott, who takes on role of managing director at Taylor and Whiteley.

Taylor and Whiteley was formed by Mr Whiteley over 30 years ago as a specialist toolmaker.

It employs about 70 people and makes parts for turbochargers which are fitted to commercial vehicles.

The firm supplies Huddersfield-based Cummins Turbo Technologies, formerly Holset.

VTL Automotive, based at Luddenden, was formed in 1919 as Sagar Richards and was latterly known as Valeo Transmission.

The firm, a leading supplier of parts for vehicle transmissions, was bought by its existing management for £2.3m in 2001.

Taylor and Whiteley was advised by accountancy firm Mazars, of Leeds, and Harrogate law firm Hempsons.
