INTEREST in engineering apprenticeships are at an all-time high, says a Brighouse-based training group.

Kirkdale Industrial Training Services reported its busiest ever open evening – when about 100 young people and their families walked through the doors to find out about enrolling as engineering or motor vehicle apprenticeships.

Now KITS is gearing up for a similar level of interest at further open days planned for Saturday, April 5, and Saturday, April 26, at its Armytage Road premises.

Chief executive David Todhunter said: “It was delightful to see so many keen and enthusiastic school leavers eager to enrol for apprenticeships and seek a secure future with local employers. Over 200 people attended the first event.”

More than 100 school leavers joined apprenticeship programmes in mechanical and electrical engineering, fabrication and motor vehicle engineering last autumn – since KITS’ skills training centre has been operating at capacity.
