A company providing print services is embarking on a charity mission to Sri Lanka.

Elland-based ABS UK Ltd is sending three of its staff on an eight-day trip in October to the Eliya children’s home in the beach town of Tangalle. The company supports the orphanage through the firm’s charitable arm, the ABS Foundation.

ABS, which invested £250,000 in relocating from Bradford to premises at Newcombe Mill, has donated more than £18,000 to the children’s home situated on the southern coast of Sri Lanka since 2013 and is now contributing towards the installation of solar panels for the home.

The ABS staff – Stacey Langley, Ben Tighe and Petr Pospisil – were chosen for the trip as part of the firm’s Colleague Care Incentive, an internal employee recognition programme which rewards incidences of colleague care in relation to business performance.

The volunteers will spend three days at the children’s home and take part in cultivating vegetables, repairing water pipes, IT literacy training and general maintenance of the home.

The team will also deliver clothes and toys to the orphans which have been donated by their colleagues.

The volunteers will be accompanied on the trip by ABS director Brett Abson and the firm’s marketing and corporate social responsibility co-ordinator David Lees, who is also a trustee of the ABS Foundation.

Said Brett: “We’re delighted to announce this charitable trip on the first anniversary of our Colleague Care Incentive.

“We hope it will be an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience for our team members in reward of their hard work over the past year.

“At the same time,we hope to continue the legacy of the ABS Foundation and provide a valuable contribution to the continued development and upkeep of the orphanage.”

Ben, who is management print specialist at ABS, said: “Winning the trip to Sri Lanka as part of the business incentive was an amazing feeling and will hopefully be an amazing experience and one which I will never forget.

“Having served in the Navy for four years it will be wonderful to see this part of the world again.”

The ABS team will spend a total of eight days in Sri Lanka and in addition to volunteering, will visit different cities and take part in activities including safaris and tree-house wildlife experiences as well as yoga and surfing courses.”
