A SPA described as a slice of heaven has been named Business of the Month in a competition run by Huddersfield law firm Eaton Smith Solicitors.

Alexandra House is a holistic health and well-being spa offering individual treatments and longer pampering sessions in a grand Victorian villa at Edgerton.

Dr Maxine Stead set up the spa in 2007 when she decided on a career change after 14 years working in cancer research for the NHS.

She said: I decided to establish my own business helping people with busy jobs and lifestyles like my own to take time out and to develop a different approach to life.

The spa has been awarded several prestigious titles, including a top rating in the Good Spa Guide that described it as a slice of heaven off the M62. It has also featured in the Observer Magazines top 10 most affordable spas in Britain and in the 30 most inspiring spas for 2011 in the magazine Professional Beauty.

Maxine started in rented premises with two full-time therapists, but the spa has grown year-on-year and is expected to continue growing.

Now in its fourth year, it has seven employed staff and has had student placements from the White Rose Beauty College in Huddersfield.

Said Maxine: Were delighted to have been given this awardêand to be recognised for the teams hard work.êWere now looking forward to the annual awards ceremony in July.

The award, run in association with the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and Business Link Yorkshire, is open to all firms in Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield. Go to www.eatonsmith.co.uk, or contact Ian Greenwood on 01484 821389.
