A flooring specialist has completed his first-ever commissions for exhibitors at a major industry show.

Nigel Bawn, who runs Longwood-based Bawn Flooring was engaged to provide the flooring for two trade stands at the Harrogate Flooring Show – Bristol-based flooring firm Plastavarian Ltd and Cheshire-based trade publication Tomorrows Flooring.

Plastavarian Ltd is now arranging for Bawn Flooring to help design and fit out its new 120,000sq ft showroom in Bristol and work with the company on future exhibitions.

Nigel, who has been fitting flooring of all kinds for he past 10 years, set up his own company in December last year – and has seen business take off.

Rising demand from individual homeowners and other companies has seen him travel to Halifax, Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield to carry out contracts.

He also works for B&Q and local companies such as Aspley Carpets and Salendine Nook-based MGL Rugs.

Nigel said: “This month is the busiest month so far. The recession is over and I have a really good website which is driving business through recommendation and customer feedback.”

Nigel is self-taught, but became one of the first flooring installers in the UK to achieve the prestigious title of Quick-Step Master Installer two years ago after completing a rigorous training and assessment programme at the Quick-Step Academy for Excellence in Flooring.
