A PUB is set to open in Brighouse with the creation of 25 jobs.

Staff training is under way at the Barracuda Bar, which occupies the former Kingsway Bingo Hall on Huddersfield Road.

The pub – which will open on Thursday, February 7 – is owned by pub operator The Barracuda Group, which also owns The Varsity on Zetland Street in Huddersfield town centre.

About £1.5m has been invested in fitting out the new bar, which has about 25 full and part-time staff.

Features at the bar, which has been decorated in a South African theme, include plasma screens and a big screen for sport, a high-tech music and lighting system and a DJ booth for weekends. The interior includes leather booths and sofa seating, wood block and carpeted flooring.

The venue will open to VIP guests at 5pm on February 7 and to the public from 7pm.

Bar manager Maxine Blake said: “The pub looks really fantastic and we’ve already had a lot of people looking forward to having somewhere new in Brighouse.

“The team are undergoing a full training programme focusing on high service and standards ready for the opening night.”

Attractions include a £1 loyalty card for regular customers, entitling them to discounts on drinks and promotions.

The bar will open from 11am every day with a licence to 1am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The Barracuda Group is based in Buckinghamshire. It was formed in 2000 and has more than 200 pubs and bars across the UK, employing more than 4,000 staff.

It plans to open 30 new venues each year under the Barracuda, Smith & Jones, Varsity, Cape and Juniper brands.

The group also has Varsity pubs in Leeds and Bradford, as well as a Barracuda Bar in Halifax and a Smith & Jones pub in Ossett.
