They're the future of any thriving, go-ahead business.

Talented young workers – from the shopfloor to the boardroom – can bring new ideas, enthusiasm and creativity to their roles in any organisation.

Now the Examiner Business Awards 2013 will recognise these up-and-coming leaders of tomorrow with the category of Young Business Person of the Year.

Are you or one of your employees aged 40 or under and a rising star in your industry, able to demonstrate outstanding achievements to date?

Our Young Business Person of the Year will display excellent leadership and management skills that drive success for their business.

The founder of an independent opticians’ practice, who has combined business acumen and community spirit to drive his operations forward, was the winner of last year’s award.

Moin Valli, who became a qualified optometrist in 2000, founded the Valli Group in 2005 when he was 27 by acquiring three practices in Lockwood, Honley and Meltham.

In 2006, he added another in Cleckheaton and in 2009 purchased one in Mytholmroyd. He acquired an Almondbury practice in 2011 and another in Hebden Bridge just a year ago.

Starting from three practices, turnover of £350,000 and eight staff in 2005, his business has grown to seven practices, 25 staff and a seven-figure turnover.

Under his leadership, the group invested in the practices with major refurbishments and the introduction of state-of-the-art equipment – enabling them to retain existing customers and attract new ones.

The group has also supported its local communities, offering a free domiciliary service to elderly and disabled patients unable to visit their local practice and making regular visits to local schools and community groups to deliver talks aimed at raising awareness about eye health.
