A TEXTILE company is setting the pace for greener business.

Upholstery fabrics group Camira, which is based in Mirfield and has manufacturing operations at Meltham, has established a reputation in a traditional industry for technological solutions to the problems of waste.

The company, led by managing director Paul Goodall, is a leading supplier of fabrics to cover items such as office seats and cubicle dividers as well as material for train and bus seats.

In 205, the firm won a Queen’s Award for Innovation for its pioneering work to recycle materials such as plastic bottles and the cushioned mesh from the inside of training shoes to make fabrics for seats and wallcoverings.

Mr Goodall said: “The company’s success in developing new products as helped us maintain market share in the face of fierce competition from cheap imports.”

In its latest move, Camira has teamed up with Halifax firm John Holdsworth and Co to set up a new brand, Holdsworth Fabrics, to further its success in the transport sector.

Camira, based at Hopton Mills, has increased turnover by more than 10% in the past 18 months – with sales hitting £40m this year. It also has manufacturing plants in Nottingham and Lithuania.
