A BATLEY-based business promoting trading links with China will be getting the new year off to a flying start.

ConnectChina Ltd is leading a trade mission to Hong Kong and China from January 13 to 20 with the support of UK Trade & Investments.

ConnectChina spokeswoman Jo Lavan said: “China offers many opportunities for companies, large or small, across the full range of sectors for goods and services.

“This trade visit will introduce companies to doing business in Hong Kong as the gateway to China and mainland China itself.”

Participants on the trade trip will feature companies from a variety of sectors and will include firms already doing business with China who want to strengthen relationships and companies going out for the first time to research the market and identify opportunities.

Said Jo: “With one of the most open and business-friendly environments in the world, Hong Kong offers excellent opportunities for UK companies.

“Hong Kong is a major centre for British business in the region. It is the UK's second largest market in Asia, behind China. Not only is Hong Kong an attractive market in its own right and a springboard in to the mainland China market, it is also an ideal base for regional operations.”

UK goods exports to China increased by 21.4% from 2010 to 2011 and China rose from ninth to seventh place in terms of the UK's most important export markets by goods export volume.

Shanghai, with its population of 19m, is the largest port in the world and the industrial, trade and financial centre of China.

The trade visit package will include business meetings specific to each company in both cities, travel and accommodation and full support before, during and after the visit.
