A windows, doors and roofing installer has swept the board in a national competition – coming away with four trophies.

And Craig Hanson’s success came just two weeks after he got married – meaning a delayed honeymoon for him and new wife Clare.

Craig, who runs Aspley-based Pennine Retail Windows Ltd, was supreme champion – winning all three sections of the 2016 FIT Show Master Fitter Challenge finals held in association with industry body FENSA at Birmingham’s NEC.

Craig and his five fellow finalists were put through their paces in front of an audience of hundreds of their peers in the competition, which aims to recognise the importance of installers in the process of selling and fitting windows, doors and related home improvements.

The Master Fitter Challenge took place during the 2016 FIT Show and involved the six finalists installing a solid porch roof, windows and doors – with three finalists on each of the two days of competition.

The finalists were expected to complete all three installations safely and expertly in a single day.

Craig won each of the three sections, landing a total of four trophies and a cheque for £5,000 presented by FENSA chairman Brian Baker.

Craig was a finalist in the 2013 and 2014 competitions but came away empty-handed on both occasions.

To reach the finals, he had to answer questions on building regulations and technical aspects of installation work as well as having his work inspected.

Craig said: “It’s been an amazing year, what with getting married and then to compete and win all the awards is just amazing.

“I thought that the final this year was very competitive. We could really show our skills. It was hard work, as always, up against the best in the industry in front of all the people and judges making it a day to remember. It’s always an honour to represent our industry and I can’t wait until next year to come and compete again.”
