However, former Huddersfield University Phil Mundy is playing the game to win as managing director of Creative North.

The company, based at the Creative Lofts, Northumberland Street, devises games for mobile phones.

Mr Mundy, who set up the firm in 2004, has also formed the Creative North Academy to offer work placements to students and provide training in the creative sector.

Since then, it has scored with Rugby Super League to design its official mobile phone game.

The company has also designed an educational game for the RNLI lifeboat service and put questions from the theory section of the driving test onto mobiles for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.

Thermilate Ltd

A BUSINESS in Huddersfield is using space-age technology to put the heat on his competitors.

Mohammed Ashfaq is managing director of Thermilate Ltd, based at the Media Centre in Huddersfield.

The firm supplies a fine powder - first developed by space agency NASA - which is mixed with decorating paint to reduce heat loss or heat build-up in buildings and cut energy costs.

The substance, which is inert and non-toxic, can be added to any paint and by reflecting and dissipating heat can help cut energy costs.

It can be used on interior and exterior walls, roofs, industrial ovens and other plant, air-conditioning ducts, boats and ships.

Ashfaq, an engineer by profession, has a string of successful business ventures to his name.

He joined Huddersfield Business Generator with web-based Elite Media, but expanded to develop several websites.

He came across Thermilate while surfing the web and quickly recognised its potential.

Now he has the sole licence to distribute Thermilate across Europe and much of Asia.
