Walker Singleton Business of the Year - Dual Seal Glass

A COMPANY supplying glass to some of Britain’s best-known buildings was a clear winner at last night’s awards.

Dual Seal Glass Ltd, formed in 1995 by father and son David and Nigel Meredith, began by making double glazing units for houses before switching to the commercial sector.

The company moved from Milnsbridge to bigger premises on Leeds Road and invested £1m in state-of-the-art cutting equipment and now plans to update the toughening facility with a new furnace offering energy saving and increased capacity.

The firm, which has worked on Huddersfield University’s creative arts building and Kirklees College’s Waterfront development, has boosted staffing from 16 in 1995 to 76.

Owner David Meredith said: “I am very surprised, I had us down at second at best. There was some very stiff competition but our hard work has paid off.

“We are a local company and we have done very well, it is a great recognition.”

Also nominated in the category, sponsored by Walker Singleton, were Britannia Rescue and Ploughcroft Group
