SATELLITE broadcaster BSkyB has reported a rise in customer numbers for its TV and broadband services.

Underlying profits at Sky increased by 24% to £790m in the nine months to March 31 as new services such as the Sky Atlantic channel helped customer numbers rise to 10.1m.

The latest strong trading performance is likely to increase the pressure on Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation to offer more money as it tries to buy the 61% of Sky that it does not already own.
