A FAMILY firm providing high quality horse transport for some of the world’s top show jumpers has galloped away with an award.

Meltham-based Equi-Trek Ltd, founded in 1999, is the latest winner of the Business of the Month Award run by Huddersfield law firm Eaton Smith in conjunction with the Lockwood-based Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce at Business Link Yorkshire.

The company’s owners, who have themselves competed at major equestrian competitions, aimed to re-design and produce a range of trailers which offer safe, easy loading and comfortable travel for the horse and good facilities for the rider or owner.

Due to their unique side-loading trailers and patented designs, Equi-Trek trailers have proved hugely successful and the company has sold thousands worldwide.

The business developed from being a small manufacturer of side-loading horse trailers to introduce 3.5 tonne motorised horseboxes in the mid-2000s. Last year saw the launch of the 26 tonne Enterprise, which can carry up to nine horses in comfort.

Equi-Trek has also been among the winners in each of the past two Examiner Business Awards.

Managing director Tom Janion received the latest accolade at a presentation at Eaton Smith’s High Street offices.

He said: “This is an exciting award for Equi-Trek. As a proud, local employer we strive to provide the best value horse transport at the highest quality and recognition of our success is always rewarding.”

The Eaton Smith Business of the Month Award is open to all companies in Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.
