A FIRM well-versed in dealing with China is Huddersfield-based domestic heating products manufacturer Fired Up.

And the company, based at St Thomas’ Road, Longroyd Bridge, has emphasised its success in the region by winning the China Business Award for Yorkshire and Humber.

The accolade recognises Fired Up’s success in establishing a factory in China to make and supply items including rice cookers and electric fires – as well as exporting electrical products made in Huddersfield to China.

Chief executive Richard Kaye and Chris Chan, general manager of the 300,000sq ft factory at Zhongshan City in Guangdong Province, received the award at a presentation in Sheffield.

Fired Up has lifted turnover in China from about £900,000 in 2006 to a budgeted turnover of about £6m for 2011. Sales into China are expected to account for almost 25% of turnover generated by the Chinese operation this year.

Fired Up began its Chinese venture six years ago as a way to combat the threat from low-cost Chinese manufacturers.
