A FITNESS centre in Huddersfield town centre has been sold following the collapse of the company owning it.

Motorcise Healthy Living Centre at New Street is among 24 branches sold by administrators to Energie Group subsidiary Energie Fitness for Women. A further 12 sites have been closed.

Administrators from insolvency firm Begbies Traynor were appointed last Friday after shareholders of Motorcise Healthy Living were unable to continue supporting the business financially.

Paul Stanley, partner at Begbies Traynor in Manchester, said: “While it is good news that a sale has been completed for 24 Motorcise sites, we are mindful of those affected by the closure of the remaining 12.

“We always work to ensure that minimal disruption is caused in cases of administration and we are pleased that a smooth transaction has taken place. However, on this occasion it was the Energie Group's decision to purchase 24 of the 36 sites available.”

Motorcise Healthy Living Centres are specifically targeted at women over the age of 40 who might find health clubs and gymnasiums intimidating.

The centres operate motorised exercise machines.
