A HIGH-CALIBRE panel of judges has picked the winners in the Huddersfield Examiner Business Awards.

The five-strong panel sifted through hundreds of entries to find the winners of 10 categories recognising the achievements of local firms of all types and sizes.

The judges include John Thompson, who is professor of entrepreneurship at Huddersfield University.

Prof Thompson has worked extensively in the field of "incubating" new businesses - pioneering the Huddersfield Business Generator, based at The Media Centre, Northumberland Street, and the university's Business Mine.

He is also the author of several books on entrepreneurship, business mentoring and business management.

Andrew Palmer is deputy regional director of the Confederation of British Industry in Leeds.

He plays a major role in representing the views and promoting the interests of Yorkshire businesses.

Ken Gillespie is director of regeneration at Kirklees Council and is closely involved in a string of major developments for Huddersfield.

He has played a key part in bringing some of its flagship schemes to fruition - including the Galpharm Stadium complex and the Kingsgate Centre.

Mr Garside is a prominent figure in the local business community.

Examiner managing director John Griffith chaired the panel.
