A group of Yorkshire-based companies joined forces to highlight the benefits of strategic community-based partnerships.

Corporate social responsibility was on the agenda as recruitment consultancy, Gi Group UK, which has offices at Centre 27 in Birstall, joined forces with Croda, DWF and Logistik to highlight the gains all parties can derive from businesses backing community-based projects

The event – part of Business In The Community’s Responsible Business Week campaign – featured presentations on the themes of working with charities, the corporate business case for social responsibility, recruitment and retention and working with young people.

Speakers from the four Yorkshire firms were joined by others from Leeds University and charities, including Simon on the Streets, which works with homeless people in Huddersfield.

Gi Group regional manager Kate Maddison-Greenwell discussed the company’s Employability Programme, which aims to improve the employment prospects of job seekers.

There were also “breakout” sessions covering subjects including health and well-being, homelessness, measuring and monitoring impact and working with schools.

Gi Group won a BITC Responsible Business Award last year for a scheme which saw it empower and place more than 2,500 unemployed people in permanent jobs.
