BAKERY chain Greggs has unveiled plans to open stores at motorway service stations UK-wide.

Greggs, which has several shops in Huddersfield and more than 1,540 outlets in the UK, said a deal with motorway service firm Moto will see it open its first trial store off the M6 and M56 near Lymm, Cheshire, in December.

A second trial outlet is planned, but the location is yet to be determined. If the two stores are successful, at least 30 stores could be in the pipeline for Moto locations across Britain.

Greggs, which serves 6m customers a week, has bucked the gloomy trend on the high street in recent months with special offers and new product lines.

Chief executive Ken McMeikan said the latest move would make Greggs even more accessible.
