A retail outlet named Zebra has earned its stripes – as winner of the Tidy Trader Award for Honley.

The award, which is made by Holme Valley Parish Council, was presented to June Mclean, owner of Zebra, a jewellery and gift shop based in Westgate.

The competition aims to encourage shop owners to take a pride in their premises.

June said: “It was a lovely surprise to win the award, to be shown some recognition for the hard work we put in to ensure our shop always looks great inside and out. We had the outside refurbished again this year as the shutters needed painting, so we even look good when we are closed!”

Alongside the tidy trader trophy that is handed on each year, a special trophy sculptured by local artist Mick Kirby-Geddes shows a triumphant winner with earrings and a bracelet made especially for Zebra.

This year, Gallery Cafe came second and floor coverings specialist Dixon and Franks came third.
