One of West Yorkshire’s oldest textile mills has won a top industry award.

Batley-based Joshua Ellis, which has been weaving luxury cashmere, fine fabrics and accessories for almost 250 years. was presented with the Textile Business Award at the 2015 UK Fashion and Textile Awards held at Tobacco Dock in London.

The company, part of the family-owned Seal Group, based in Bradford, is renowned globally for its cashmere, wool and camel overcoating and jacketing fabrics, which are designed and manufactured in West Yorkshire. It works with leading international fashion brands and design houses including Chanel, Bottega Venta and Ralph Lauren.

Managing director Jayne Woodthorpe said: “Britain’s fashion and textile industry is thriving and we faced extremely tough competition in our category.

“This award highlights the fact that a continuing emphasis on innovation and excellence is ensuring that our business continues to be relevant today, exporting Yorkshire cloth around the world.

“It is a tribute to the skill and dedication of our local workforce, our high quality standards and the mix of traditional and new manufacturing techniques we use to create our pioneering luxury textile products.”
