EFFORTS to revive a social group for pensioners in Meltham will take another step forward at a meeting next month.

Meltham town councillors Shirley Watson has organised a meeting to be held from 2pm to 4pm on Tuesday, March 11, at the church hall, Green’s End Road, after getting “quite a good response” to questionnaires distributed around the village.

The society, which had some 600 members, lapsed about three years ago because of difficulties getting people to serve on its committee. But it still has an amount of money in the bank, which could be used to pay for room hire and social events.

Clr Watson said: “I have invited a former president of the group, Roy Bastow, to the meeting to tell us why the group folded and give us a few tips. I also want to set up a committee to see about reviving the club to meet in the afternoons, rather than the evenings as happened before.

“We will also be investigating any sources of funding. It is important that the group can be revived because there is nothing much for pensioners in Meltham at the moment.”
