RETAILER Carpetright dealt a blow to profit hopes after reporting a fall in sales.
The firm, which has a store at Great Northern Retail Park in Huddersfield, said same-store sales in the UK and Ireland fell by 7.7% in the 13 weeks to January 29 – when business was affected by the heavy snows.
Chairman and chief executive Lord Harris said: “Although we have achieved an increase in sales year on year since Christmas, this has not been at the level expected. This causes us to remain cautious about the outlook for the remainder of the financial year.”
Carpetright said profits for the year to April would be below last year and lower than market expectations of about £26.3m – although they would be ahead of the £17m posted two years earlier.
