THE owner of restaurant chains Frankie & Benny’s and Chiquito revealed a “significant uplift” in sales.

The Restaurant Group said trading for the first 19 weeks of the group’s financial year showed total sales up by 8% with like-for-like 4% ahead – as wet weather prompted more people to visit cinemas, leisure and retail parks where many of its sites are located.

The improvement, which was assisted by softer comparisons with a year earlier, led to a 6% jump in the company’s share price.

The group, which has about 400 outlets, is on track to open between 25 and 30 new restaurants in the year to December – with about half of them set to be Frankie & Benny’s.
