A COMPANY providing support to independent financial advisers took one of the top trophies at last year’s Examiner Business Awards.

And winning the title of Business of the Year has played a part in the further success of Huddersfield-based SimplyBiz Services plc.

The company was launched in 2002 by chairman Ken Davy, who is a familiar figure in the town as chairman of Huddersfield Giants.

SimplyBiz grew to employ 150 staff and provide services to a membership of more than 2,000 independent financial adviser firms.

Together, they account for more than 5,000 registered individuals.

As well as providing services such as back office and book-keeping software, expert technical guidance and help with compliance, the group – based at the Galpharm Stadium – also stages hundreds of events a year covering business development, investment, mortgages, pensions and compliance.

Judges in the 2010 Examiner Business Awards were impressed by the company’s track record of growth, its solid business model and the evident enthusiasm and hard work of its staff.

It was also praised for its commitment to helping member firms remain compliant and become more profitable and successful.

SimplyBiz has been recognised with a string of awards for its technical support, the quality of its professional advice and its rate of growth.

But being rated one of the town’s top businesses last year was a definite highlight.

David Kershaw, member services director, said: “SimplyBiz were delighted to be presented with Business of the Year Award at the 2010 Huddersfield Examiner Awards.

“Not only was this a great morale boost to our staff, it has enabled us to be recognised within the financial services industry as a leading and well-managed operation.

“As a consequence, the award has added to our credibility which has enabled additional business to be won.”

Added Mr Kershaw: “SimplyBiz and its staff are particularly proud of our achievement and take a delight in displaying the certificate in our reception for all to see!”
