MOTOR racing stars of the future are getting a flying start thanks to a Brighouse firm.

Millers Oils is back on the grid to sponsor the Historic Formula Junior Championship for the 11th years running. The competition celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

The company will provide drivers with its range of high specification motor sport oils and fuel additives as Formula Junior racers from around the world tear up the track at such famous venues as Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Monaco and Monza.

Formula Junior was devised in 1958 by Count Jonny Lurani as an international formula for single-seat racing cars below Formula One.

Between 1957 and 1963 Formula Junior provided a launchpad for iconic drivers and racing teams, including Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Lotus and Brabham.

Fifty years since it started, the competition is now the most successful historic racing series. This year a world series of races will be held in countries including New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and the USA as well as the UK and Europe.

John Chisholm, winner of the 2007 contest, has already begun his 2008 calendar alongside many other drivers competing in the first two rounds of the world series in New Zealand and Australia.

The Millers Oils UK Championship began at Mallory Park last Sunday and it is expected that the Brands Hatch round of the World Series on June 27 and 28 will attract over 100 competitors across three races.

Robin Longdon, motorsport product manager at Millers Oils, and winner of the European Formula Junior Series in 2007, said: “Reaching the 50th season is a fantastic achievement for all concerned in Formula Junior.

“Millers Oils is proud to provide continuing support for such a fantastic series.”
