TV PRESENTER Fearne Cotton will host a celebration of learning and skills in Yorkshire.

Huddersfield Textile Training Ltd, based at the Textile Centre of Excellence, Red Doles Lane, is among the organisations bidding for prizes in the Celebration of Learning and Skills Awards, CoLaS 2008.

The event, which is backed by the Learning and Skills Council, takes place on April 16 at the Harrogate Conference Centre. Judges received more than 250 nominations from individuals and employers.

Fearne, who has presented TV’s Top of the Pops and Diggit and hosts Radio 1’s Chart Show, will announce the winners in front of a 1,000-strong audience.

Margaret Coleman, regional director for the LSC in Yorkshire, said: “CoLaS 2008 is a fantastic opportunity to draw attention to the importance of learning and skills development in the region.

“Fearne Cotton announcing the award nominations and highlighting the many achievements in the region will be a very fitting way to mark this special celebration.”

CoLaS 2008 has also been endorsed by some of Yorkshire’s home grown celebrities – with Emmerdale actress and singer Hayley Tammaden stepping out onto the red carpet to launch the event.

The awards cover 10 categories including agriculture, horticulture and animal care; arts, media and publishing; business, administration and law; construction and planning; engineering and manufacturing; hair and beauty services; retailing; and leisure, travel and tourism.
