YORKSHIRE Water has won an award for the way it looks after staff in its information technology department.
The Bradford-based company won the category for utilities and telecommunications at the Best Place to Work in IT 2008 Awards at the Intercontinental Hotel in London – beating off competition from oil giant BP, telecoms company BT and energy firm Eon.
And Yorkshire Water’s IT department went on to lift the overall prize, the Best of the Best Award against a range of companies from 12 other industry sectors, including Norwich Union, Virgin Atlantic and Sainsbury’s.
The awards, run by Computer Weekly, reward IT departments where employers demonstrate a commitment to innovation and providing a stimulating, enjoyable and productive workplace.
Yorkshire Water IT manager Duncan Bennett said the award recognised the company’s IT department for its staff development, consideration of issues such as work-life balance and policy of allowing secondments to allow employees time to work in the community.
