Display specialist The Wonderworks has completed a Christmas commission from a leading shopping centre.

The Wonderworks, which has its offices at Lindley and workshops at Halifax, has built a festive display in time for Christmas for The Marlowes Shopping Centre in Hemel Hempstead.

It is the second installation that The Wonderworks have undertaken for The Marlowes, which recently celebrated 25 years since the shopping centre opened.

Last year, the firm built a display with the theme Letters to Santa, which encouraged youngsters to write a special letter to Santa and deliver it in person to the man himself. The display incorporated a 10ft ice mountain dotted with animatronic characters including penguins, a polar bear, snowman, Christmas trees and festive signage.

This year’s display takes the theme of Festive Flight Attendant, which will see The Wonderworks transport The Marlowes back to a more traditional Christmas with animated reindeer characters and large oversized props to support the theme topped off with artificial snow, flitter glitter and Christmas trees. Members of the public will be able to donate to local charities via the large “present” donation point, which will form part of the display.

Centre director Vince Williams said: ‘Last year’s Wonderworks display made our grotto come alive and proved really popular with our shoppers.

“I am looking forward to seeing this year’s plans come to life for our festive flight attendants-themed grotto, which I’m sure will once again provide our shoppers with a magical Christmas experience.”

Rob Curran, founder of The Wonderworks, said: “It’s a pleasure to once again be working with The Marlowes.

“We are delighted that last years installation was such a success and that our relationship continues to grow.”

Rob studied spatial design at Dewsbury Art College and was all ready to pursue a degree course at Huddersfield University when a Sheffield interior design firm approached the college looking for a talented recruit.

His big break came in 2001 when Rob joined Lockwood-based KD Decoratives, a leading player in the design, manufacture and installation of display items for shopping centres, cruise liners and theme parks.

Later, Rob joined a Halifax-based Christmas-led design company, before setting up his own business.

Clients have included shopping centres, cinema chains, garden centres and high street stores
