Yorkshire Building Society – which has its roots in Huddersfield – has named John Heaps as chairman designate.

Mr Heaps will succeed Ed Anderson as chairman at the conclusion of the Bradford-based society’s annual meeting next April when Mr Anderson retires from the board.

Mr Anderson joined the board as a non-executive director in 2003 and became chairman in 2007.

Mr Heaps is the former chairman of corporate law firm Eversheds. He served on its board since 2008 and before that its senior management team since 1999.

Since standing down as chairman of Eversheds earlier this year, he has continued his role as a litigation partner and will remain with the firm until April, 2015.

Mr Heaps is a member of the Business and Oversight Board of the Law Society and serves on the risk and audit and constitutional committees of the International Bar Association.
