AN award-winning farm shop near Huddersfield will defend its title at a top competition for Yorkshire’s premier pork butchers.

Hinchliffe’s Farm Shop at Netherton won the trophy for the supreme champion pie at the 2007 Great Yorkshire Pork Pie, Sausage, Black Pudding and Beefburger competition.

The 20th annual competition will be held on Sunday October 19 at Bradford’s Cedar Court Hotel.

A spokesman said entries were welcome from the county’s farm shops and bakers who make products on their premises.

“The pie and sausage sections are keenly contested, with class winners competing for prestigious supreme championship honours. Black pudding and beefburger classes are also well-supported.

“To win an award is a major accolade and a real boost to business.”

The 2008 event features a new trophy for the champion black pudding. All championship winners, and those placed first, second and third in their classes, receive trophies and diplomas.

Every finalist is also presented with Yorkshire Rose Award diplomas. In addition, all entrants get written appraisals of their products from the expert judges.

Entry forms are being sent to butchers across Yorkshire and can also be downloaded from the competition website at www.greatyorkscomp.co.uk

The closing date for entries is October 11.
