Examiner Community Awards: Achievement Award - Kiran Bali
Kiran has served as a Director of the Kirklees Racial Equality Council and the Active Faith Communities programme. She has chaired the Huddersfield Interfaith Council and is a Director of Yorkshire and Humber Faiths Forum.
On top of all that she’s Huddersfield youngest magistrate.
Her philosophy in life is simple. "If we all try to make a contribution then in some way we will make a big difference together."
She told last night’s audience: "I have been astounded tonight to hear and to see what people in this town have to offer.
"There is such a wonderful commitment, such a wonderful diversity to celebrate.
"To receive this award tonight is so very special. I am very touched by what people have had to say but also by what people have done for Huddersfield and for the people in this town.
"Each one of us here tonight has, in one way or another, made a valuable contribution to our community.
"This leads to its wonderful warmth and togetherness.
"I hope we can all continue to work to build bridges to peace and to harmony. We must continue to ensure that we continue to put the greatness into Great Britain."
The Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Julie Stewart-Turner, said: "It has been a wonderful, uplifting experience to hear what so many people have achieve and to hear their stories.
"There is so much that is good about our community.
"It’s very special and it is good to see people’s efforts rewarded in this way."
Ms Hossain said: "Every one of the people, the organisations, nominated for an award tonight are winners.
"They can all be very proud of what they have achieved".
And the evening was best summed up by Peter Green, a long-serving official of Honley Cricket Club, who won one of the awards.
"We don’t sell ourselves in Huddersfield as we much as we could and should.
"There is a lot to shout about."
