Smiles and tears at memorial service for Examiner’s Sudders
A speech about Adrian was made by one of his best friends, Olie D’Albertansen, and his parents braved the emotion of the day to give public thanks to everyone who had supported Adrian and his campaign.
Mother Kay said: “He was our lad, our boy, and we’ve lost him. Adrian, we love you, we miss you, we will never forget you.”
Colne Valley MP Kali Mountford spoke about the huge impact of Adrian’s campaign.
“I have never been more proud of being involved in a campaign,’’ she said. “Even the hardest of hard-hearted hacks took Adrian to their hearts because he was the genuine article.
“Adrian was getting responses in days, results in weeks and I hope to see action any day now. I’ve never seen anything quite like it before.”
Caroline Berger, of the Anthony Nolan Trust, encouraged people to continue his work.
She said: “Adrian was an inspirational and unique young man who has achieved more in 27 years than many of us ever will.
“Adrian was determined to have others facing a similar situation to have a chance of life and his remarkable courage, strength and dignity will continue to inspire people to join the bone marrow register.”
His family hope the service will have inspired people to spread awareness about donation or to sign up as donors themselves.
