It may not be as spectacular as London, but fireworks continue to light up the New Year night sky above Huddersfield.

Since the new Millennium was celebrated in 2000, when the sky was brilliantly lit up by fireworks, the tradition has continued.

And dozens of people made the trek up to Castle Hill to launch their fireworks as the first chime of Big Ben heralded the start of 2014.

The photo by Examiner reader Ian Kennedy from Almondbury, was taken at 12.25am yesterday morning and shows the stream of cars slowly winding their way down the hill after the revellers had let their fireworks off or enjoyed the spectacle of seeing the explosions all around Huddersfield. Although some hardy souls remained up there as another firework can be seen exploding just above the hill.
