The MP for Dewsbury and Mirfield wants to stop scam mail from reaching our homes.

Mr Reevell is backing a campaign by Trading Standards to establish a series of ‘scam hubs’ that will gather information and help people who have been duped.

They also aim to stop people receiving this kind of mail altogether and prosecute the culprits.

The MP said most people in the region will at some point have received mail, claiming they have won a prize, but need to send money to secure this.

Most people will put them in the bin and ignore them, but he said: “There is a small group of people who are taken in and who send off their money. They are then placed on a ‘suckers list’ and their details sold among criminal gangs.”

Scam mail costs the UK around £3.5 billion a year and over 80% of the 100,000 victims identified were 70 or over.

Mr Reevell would like to hear from his constituents who have received such mail.
