Barry Sheerman

Mr Sheerman has been an MP since 1979 and chairs the House of Commons Select Committee on Children, Schools and Families.

He is married with four children and five grandchildren.

Mr Sheerman, 68, lives in Almondbury.

Before becoming an MP he was head of American studies at Swansea University.
