Communities count more than ever in these straitened times.

And businesses showing a true community spirit – by being good neighbours, supporting their local schools, charities and voluntary groups – are set to get the recognition they deserve in the Examiner Business Awards

Chapel Hill-based recruitment firm Stafflex is once again sponsoring the Community Award, which will be presented to the winner during the glittering awards ceremony in November at Huddersfield’s John Smith’s Stadium

Are you a company with a conscience and a commitment to social responsibility? Do you make a positive impact on your community? If so, why not tell us about your achievements.

Huddersfield Town was the winner last year, when the club was recognised for a wide range of community-based initiatives.

The club raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Huddersfield Town academy through a variety of fundraising efforts, including its marathon Pedal4Pounds bike ride.

Community initiatives included “once-in-a-lifetime” events for people in Kirklees – from a football match on the stadium pitch involving 200 children to a school-based gardening competition.

Town also ran a Go Kart Challenge with David Brown and further developed its Football in the Community scheme to get many thousands of youngsters engaged in sport.

In addition, chairman Dean Hoyle spearheaded the launch of the Huddersfield Town Foundation to help local people.

A spokesman for Stafflex said: “Stafflex are proud to be associated with the Examiner Business awards for the third time this year and are again especially pleased to be sponsoring the Community Award.

“We believe that a successful enterprise grows from a vibrant, diverse community and endeavour to repay the support our business receives via our local commitment and sponsorship.

“Our company, which provides temporary and permanent staff to industry, education and commerce, operates wholly among, and for the benefit of, the people and businesses of this town.

“Our daily activities keep us in touch with all sections of society and we constantly see and appreciate the valuable contribution which local commitment can make to the community as a whole .

“We are eagerly looking forward to congratulating the winner.”
