A forum which promotes and raises money for a children’s centre at the heart of a community is hoping for a share of the Wish Campaign fund.
Rawthorpe and Dalton Parents’ Forum promotes courses and services on offer at Rawthorpe and Dalton Children’s Centre.
And it’s not just children that the centre on Ridgeway at Dalton benefits.
The centre runs courses for adults, including an English course for non-native speakers, maths lessons for parents and life skills and parenting classes.
Other popular classes include Let’s Talk which teaches parents to communicate more effectively with their children and support their development.
The forum also helps organise fundraising and social events for parents and children, including a summer fun day, Halloween party and Christmas bash.
Rawthorpe and Dalton Parents’ Forum (RDPF) is hoping for some Wish Campaign cash to start a course teaching new skills – such as first aid – to parents.
Dalton mum Jessica Crowther, whose four-year-old daughter attends the centre, is also part of RDPF which also runs a Facebook group.
Jessica said: “It’s a great local centre and we’re getting really involved with it to make it a success.
“There’s a whole range of things for all people in the community and their various needs.
“The centre is an amazing place and there are lots of volunteering opportunities for parents. As parents you can become more involved delivering courses to parents and you can increase your confidence.
“Some parents have low self-esteem and it’s good to come and meet new people and find some playmates for your children.”
Rawthorpe and Dalton Children’s Centre, which belongs to Kirklees Council, was opened in 2008.
RDPF was formed shortly afterwards.
