Return to the golden days of silver screen

RESIDENTS of a Holmfirth care home can now avoid over-priced popcorn and giggling teenagers in their very own cinema room.

Lucky guests at the launch of the big-screen at the White Rose House Nursing and Care Centre in Holmfirth, celebrated the completion of the in-house ‘cinema room’ with an ‘afternoon at the movies’, complete with cinema style snacks.

Those attending the afternoon included residents and their families, care centre manager Joanne Hempstock and guests from Kirklees Council.

The room, laid out cinema style, has a very large flat-screen and all the equipment required to show movies to an audience.

Joanne thanked Kirklees Council for their involvement in the project: “We’re really pleased we were able to go ahead with this project – the residents are thrilled with the cinema room.

“All our residents enjoy socialising, trips out and taking part in the full activities programme run here.

“This just adds to the entertainment on offer – the old classics such as Little Women are the favourites with our residents.

“The residents voted for the films chosen today and we hope they will continue to enjoy many more relaxing film afternoons to come.”

Clr Margaret Bates, Kirklees cabinet member for health, said: “The capital grant funding has gone a long way to improving facilities and has offered additional benefits to many care homes across Kirklees.

“I’m sure many of the people staying at White Rose House will enjoy the cinema entertainment.

“Old movies are a great reminder of the good old days, I’m sure the cinema will bring back a lot of memories of both happy and sad times to all.”
