A ‘grand’ boost for Laura’s charity aid
A CANCER charity has been given a £1,000 boost by a Huddersfield group.
Kind-hearted members of Pendragon Round Table wanted to help support the Laura Crane Trust.
So when they heard the charity needed some cash to improve IT facilities, members donated £1,000.
Pendragon chairman Kevin Puckering said: “We’ve known about the Laura Crane Trust for some time and we do whatever we can to help local charities like this.
“We are delighted to be able to help them in any way we can and I hope this £1,000 can be used to really make a difference.”
The money donated from Pendragon will go towards updating IT facilities at the Laura Crane Trust offices on Northumberland Street.
It means staff will be able to update the website more easily and forge links with the 23 hospitals throughout the UK where they work with young cancer patients.
Fundraiser Helen Mervill said the charity was delighted with the donation, which they rely upon to fund the work they do with cancer patients aged up to 25.
Helen was friends with Laura from the age of five until Laura sadly passed away in 1996 – just two weeks after her 17th birthday.
Helen said: “We are so pleased with this donation, it really means a lot to us. As a charity we are doing all we can to help as many young people like Laura.
“Getting the support of organisations like Pendragon helps us to help as many people as we can.
“I think Laura would be so proud of all we have achieved so far and all the support we are getting.
“Laura was always a great performer, she loved to dance, and she always said she wanted to be famous.
“She obviously didn’t mean for it to be in this way, but her name is being used to help so many other people, I think she would be proud about that.”
