Facelift for three valley war memorials

THREE Holme Valley war memorials are to be revamped, the parish council has announced.

The Upperthong, Brockholes, and Holme Valley war memorials will receive vital maintenance including, the repair or replacement of cracked sections and the repointing of joints.

The Upperthong memorial at St John’s Church will also benefit from new oak entry gates.

The grants have been awarded by English Heritage, the Wolfson Foundation, and the War Memorials Trust, and Holme Valley Parish Council have chipped in more than £8,000.

The work will take place in the next 12 months.
