Dunkirk spirit!
YOUNGSTERS at Lepton Junior School partied in the street the way they did on VE Day in 1945 in a bid to learn about the Second World War.
The patriotic Class 4 pupils had already been to Eden Camp history museum near York to look at war memorabilia, but then got a taste of the real thing when Bill Fern from the Doncaster Air Museum brought along an air raid siren.
Deputy head Helen Lever said: “When it went off all the children dived under the tables.
“We had the piano out for singing, put up bunting, raised the Union Jack, had a nobbly knee competition and most of the parents came in fancy dress too.”
The historic day – organised by Class 4 teacher Gareth Rees – also featured wartime recipes, including potted meat sandwiches and vinegar fruit cake.
