Changing face of Upperthong!

REVAMP plans for the streets of Upperthong are set to be firmed up as the end of the public consultation looms.

Residents have one more week to make comments and look at plans for the £120,000 village facelift in the foyer of Holmfirth Library from today (November 8) to lunchtime on Friday November 14.

Councillors hope the streetscape scheme centring on Towngate and the conservation area will enhance the historic core of the village with a series of path, kerb and road revamps and a tidy up of street and path furniture.

A property grant scheme to allow the re-instatement of traditional features is also planned.

Current proposals include resurfacing pavements along and roads along Towngate, replacing concrete lampposts with traditional style lanterns, refurbishing the village pump outside the Royal Oak, and the provision of new street nameplates.

Upperthong is the first area to receive cash for a conservation area enhancement scheme. If approved the work should begin next summer.
